The Robbie Burns Lunch on Sunday, January 25th was a smashing success. Mike Chisholm led the congregation into the hall, Dr. Jane Ruddick and Margaret Rolfe (our hostess) cooked up a delicious traditional Scottish Burns Supper of Cock a' Leekie Soup, Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, Roast Beef and gravy. The meal was followed by Scottish Shortbread and Margaret's homemade fruit cake (the reciepe is much sought after). Well done to both of you and thank you for your generosity in hosting this grand event.
Our MC was Rev. Jonathan Pinkney who was in great spirts and provided the Selkirk Grace, kept the schedule running smoothly and introduced the entertainment portion of the lunch.
Mike Chisolm "Piped in the Haggis" while the Haggis and Whisky was presented by Ian Marshall and Ron Wood. AND Who could forget Kathy Lashbrook's dramatic and powerful "Adddress to the Haggis"? More impressive was that she memorized the speech.
After dinner, the sweet and gentle voice of Elizabeth Marshall was well suited to the remorseful tone of Robbie Burns' Poem "To a Mouse". Paul Crouser did a beautiful and moving rendition on his guitar of " A Red, Red Rose".
Mike Chisholm, the Piper ended the lunch with a stirring "Auld Lang Syne".
I am sure we did Robbie Burns proud!
